Thoreau On and Off the Page: A Journal Workshop

Ernesto Estrella Cozar
Two-Day Writing Workshop

Dates: Saturdays, October 31, 2020 and November 7, 2020

Times: 1 pm-2 pm

Location: Zoom; will send links once registered.

Tuition: $75

Program Description:

In his Journal, Thoreau crafts a writing practice that awakens our senses. When we read the account of his daily activities we think, feel, and perceive alongside him. Thoreau becomes a neighbor and each page of his journal has something to teach us.

Thoreau’s Journal shows us how to move between private and public spheres, between fact and opinion, between thought and action. Its many registers and themes are living memory of how democratic values can be enacted daily. In the midst of today’s challenges, Thoreau’s prose can teach us the beauty and precision of activism.

During the two one-hour workshops, participants will the learn skills necessary for impactful journal writing and have an opportunity to share their work with each other and Ernesto.

In the week leading up to the workshop, Ernesto will email participants class materials for their review.
